We all know that the England team had a bad time at the World Cup and the criticism was heavy. It seems the backlash will continue for some time yet and rightfully so. Frank Lampard made a deal with Goldgenie to create a 64GB gold-plated ipod to launch at Harrods. It featured a 24-carat gold ipod touch that cost around £600 and had lampard’s signature etched on the back.

Unfortunately due to England’s poor showing in the World Cup there are five thousand unsold Frank Lampard gold-plated ipods to be melted down.
James Cann of Dragons Den fame who is involved with the deal plans to scrap the devices and melt them down. The products are now likely to be rebranded as Hello Kitty Ipods.
A source told The Sun: “They’re melting down all the Frank Lampard IPods.
“It’s not exactly melting down – it’s a chemical process. But basically Goldgenie are recovering all the gold so they can use it again.
“They thought loads of people would want them during the World Cup but the backlash against England was so bad that they’ve had to scrap the whole thing.”

Thursday, July 29th, 2010 Android Sales up by 350 per cent
The mass arrival of devices such as the HTC Desire and the Samsung Galaxy S is increasing Android’s status in the UK mobile phone market.
The stats compiled by GFK Retail and Technology show Android’s share of the UK mobile contract market grew from three per cent in the first quarter of 2010 to 13.2 per cent in the second quarter.
While contract sales overall have grown by less than one per cent, sales of Android phones have grown by 350 per cent.

Amazing growth, the steps forward by manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC and Motorola to push Android-based smartphones will account for these impressive figures.
The only competition for Android phones was the Iphone 3GS and 3G for the first section of the year; at the time anyone in the market for a phone didn’t have the distraction of an Iphone 4g, which of course is the case now.
All in all phones with an advanced OS have continued in growth, the public are still jumping in to long expensive contracts, even though by the end of those they’ll likely be in agony as they see people with new phones with the latest technology.
Smartphones accounted for 66.7 per cent of the contract market in the second quarter, compared to 55 per cent in the first quarter of 2010. The latest monthly figures show that smartphones accounted for 73.5 per cent of the contract market, most likely boosted by the launch of the Iphone 4.

Nearly half of the people surveyed think telephone banking was the most convenient way of managing their finances.
Tuesday, July 27th, 2010 Ping Pong Battle for iPad
July 26, 2010, 10:02 AM EDT
By Meghann Myers
Picture this: mobile, virtual ping pong, with iPhones as paddles and an iPad as the table. This is the promise of Ping Pong Battle, but unfortunately, the developers at LIME seem to have bitten off more than they can chew.
In order to play Ping Pong Battle, you must first download the iPad app. It seems a little weird that the two-player option would be first on the menu, but it becomes clear when you click on it. You get a choice to play with or without paddles; without paddles means the players tap the ping pong ball to serve and return.
But if you want to play “with paddles” — and this goes for both the one and two-player options — you muar download “Ping Pong Paddle,” a companion app for an iPhone or iPod Touch. Then things get unnecessarily, excruciatingly complicated.
First, launch the iPad app, then select a game mode and table from a few choices (I like the pink one with crowns). Now launch the iPhone/iPod touch app. Once you’ve got both apps running on both devices, they will hopefully find each other through Bluetooth — emphasis on “hopefully.” If you’re successful, you just tap the button to start a game.
It is absolutely essential to have the sound turned up on both devices. Because the ball isn’t visible on the iPad when you hit it, you have to listen to the intensity of the volume to know when it’s time to strike, i.e. when the sound effect is loudest.
There’s also the matter of holding and swiping your iPhone correctly in order to make contact with and apply proper force to the invisible ball. Needless to say, this takes quite a bit of getting used to.
Theoretically, all of the tutorial support included in the game should help out a lot, but it’s still a struggle to perfect your technique. Both the iPad and iPhone apps have links to YouTube video tutorials, which are a nice thought, but they’re pretty much just videos of the developers playing the game with everything coming together deceptively smoothly.
Somewhat ironically, Ping Pong Battle recommends that you turn off Wi-Fi and connect your devices through Bluetooth; of course, if the connection fails, you’ll have to turn the Wi-Fi back on to access the online video tutorials.
LIME has a whole host of video tutorials and demonstrations on their YouTube account, leading to me to believe that perhaps all of that is necessary to make up for how unintuitive Ping Pong Battle is. Luckily, the latest update of Ping Pong Paddle (that’s the iPhone and iPod touch app, for those getting lost) includes written instructions.
Ping Pong Battle is disappointing for the simple fact that it’s a beautiful and creative app that is just as user unfriendly as possible. It costs a perfectly reasonable $5, but you need two iPhones or iPod touches to get the full experience, and even then, it’s labor intensive to get the whole thing going.
But if you’ve got the time and patience to master Ping Pong Battle, more power to you.

Monday, July 26th, 2010 IPhone 4G: No iPhone 4G white for now, too complicated
The long-awaited white model of iPhone 4G will not be available at least for now on the market. The new iPhone 4G has some hardware problems and Apple decided to stop its launch. This is what the company Apple announced yesterday regarding the iPhone 4G in a brief press release, which attributed the delay to the “complexity”of the manufacture of new iPhone 4G. The company’s apple, Apple, has given no date to start selling the iPhone 4G White, but seems to be this year. However, Apple has ensured that the availability of the black iPhone 4G remains unchanged.
Apple has admitted that there are many difficulties in the manufacture and production of the white iPhone 4G, just a week after its chairman, Steve Jobs, had announced that sales of the iPhone 4G White model would instead began in late July, although in small quantity… Anyway, the company expects to start selling by the end of July the iPhone 4G black in at least 17 countries. iPhone 4G will be available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland and Sweden. Just over a month since the launch of the new iPhone 4G jewel house Cupertino arrives in Italy with a resounding lack of reception.
For the iPhone 4G antenna placed at the bottom left of the terminal under the body metal in contact with the pressure of the hand produces the fall of line, Apple has found a bumper solution. So the effect Antennagate hand or if you can call it is a iPhone 4G hardware failure and not software as in principle it had assumed. “Keep your fingers on the phone causes a signal loss, depending on antenna placement,” said Steve Jobs about the iPhone 4G. “Do not challenge it in this way” and concludes ironically: “Use a glove when you answer a call.” Irony aside from the boss of Apple said the problem is not serious, but to all buyers of the iPhone 4G will be presented with a care free, and for those who have already purchased a full refund is provided. The iPhone 4G mania continues all the shops have been warned!

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010 iPhone 4G: Jobs promised iPhone covers for hardware problems
The new iPhone 4G has a fix for its problems. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has offered the solution for all iPhone 4G problems, an free cover for the iPhone 4G. The resounding failure of the iPhone 4G design that makes the signal becomes so weak coverage up to and including cutting the calls will cost to Apple, apart from the embarrassing image given by the company, image after the iPhone 4G launch, a whopping 175 million dollars . It would be the equivalent of iPhone 4G covers that Steve Jobs will have to give away as a first solution to the iPhone 4G problem and called Antennagate. The press conference that Apple had because of the coverage problems created by the innovative but ill-fated design was for the iPhone 4G has brought a solution. In it, Steve Jobs made it clear that it is wrong for the company but for the phone industry in general this problem is a common issue.

Leaving aside the controversy, Jobs was agreed that the analysis in the ingest Reports did not recommend buying the iPhone 4G in April and advised users to buy a cover to mitigate the fault of the new iPhone 4G, so a first step in that conference it was announced the press that Apple will give away a bumper of Cupertino to all customers who buy the iPhone 4G smartphone. A middle solution for iPhone 4G because Apple has damaged its brand image and users will be forced to put a case to their phone as a solution to the problems created by the iPhone 4G beautiful design.
Given the iPhone 4G’s sales figures in its first four months of life, which could range from three to three and half million units, Apple will spend around 175 million dollars to provide the promised cover to anyone who bought the new iPhone 4G with deadline of 30 September. Since it is an estimate, this amount could increase in the coming weeks as much as the iPhone 4G’s sales pace to date and may leave untouched the economic benefits of the quarter, which would be greatly harmed. However, this economic burden is assumed by the economic performance last quarter in which Apple turnover of 15.7 thousand million dollars from the sale of 8.4 million iPhone 4g, iPod 9.41 million, 3.27 million and 3 IPAD 4 million PCs.
The ultimate solution to the iPhone 4G problems of reception would be a redesign of the antenna, but it seems that plans for the signature of the block do not pass through to recall millions of iPhone 4G units sold in April, but late summer could have iPhone 4G in May, the fifth generation Apple phone would have already solved the problem of coverage. The information has come to the Network of the hands of two digital media, and even as a rumor, could reinforce the words of Steve Jobs at a press conference last Friday. So, would you get yourself the new iPhone 4G?

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 iPhone 4G: Just apologies from Steve Jobs
The new iPhone 4G was again discussed on a conference. The problems of the iPhone 4G are far from over. But regarding the iPhone 4G Steve Jobs said, “We’re not perfect.” Coming from someone like Steve Jobs and talking about the iPhone 4G, a man who heads a company symbol of total reliability as Apple is a little how to see the Fonz in Happy Days that pronounced I was wrong “struggling with the effort. The profession of modesty was the necessary step to which Jobs was forced to put a patch on what he christened (iPhone 4G)”. Antennagate, was the media event built around problems getting a new iPhone 4G. Serious problems according to many users and several specialized sites, can reset the “notches” of receiving (and make impossible calls and messages) when holding the iPhone 4G in a way, ironically named the U.S. “Death Grip” grip death.
A mess that is seriously damaging the image and that Apple has lost several percentage points to its stock market, fell by $ 270 dated 24 June (date of market launch of the iPhone 4G) to about 250 yesterday. And to avoid even worse consequences, as a class action potentially devastating for all, Jobs has had to face, calling a press conference at the
group in Cupertino, California, for the future of iPhone 4G. From the stage, after admitting that perfection does not exist even in the magical world of Apple, he said that until September 30 all customers will have a free mobile phone a bumper (a protective colored, now sold by Apple at $ 29) for their iPhone 4G. The box isolates the iPhone 4G antenna located on the outer perimeter of the appliance, by direct finger touch, thus avoiding the “death grip” that knocks out the antenna. And for the most dissatisfied (very few, according to Jobs, less than 1%) Apple also offers a refund of the amount disbursed for the iPhone 4G, provided that the refund is made within 30 days and that the product was not damaged in the meantime. We’ll see if the move will be enough to reassure markets and remove the stain from the curriculum of Apple. According to analysts the recall of all iPhones 4G sold (already 3 million seconds in the company) would cost 1.15 billion euros. The present iPhone 4G housing, impacts to a much lower figure of about 135 million. “Antennagate” aside, Jobs also announced the release date of the iPhone 4G simultaneously with 16 other countries. Still to communicate the price, but it was confirmed that buyers outside the U.S. will have their iPhone 4G case for free, at least by the end of September. The move of the free iPhone 4G bumper confirmed however that the problem of the new iPhone 4G character is not software but hardware related to the way in which the device is made. Although Jobs
has branded as “nonsense” the rumors, spread by the agency Bloomberg that he was aware of the possible defects of the iPhone 4G antenna before the marketing of the phone, and had deliberately ignored or overlooked the matter. “It’s a bitch …- said the guru Steve – and I challenge those who have put about to prove it.” Meanwhile, the challenge of Google and its Android smartphone to the throne is becoming more aggressive: just two days ago in the United States arrived in stores the new Motorola Droid X, a super-phone equipped with the system of Big G, with a 4.3-inch screen well against the iPhone 3.5 4. All stocks go in and immediately sold out until July 23 will not be back on the shelves. In the fall debut but the news of Nokia (with powerful new mobile operating systems Symbian basasti ^ 3 and Meego) and Microsoft ready to launch its Windows 7 Phone and to take advantage of defaillance reception “smartphone. “Apple iPhone 4 could be what Vista was for us,” he said with a grin Kevin Turner, chief executive of Microsoft.

Monday, July 19th, 2010 Windows Phone 7 Hits Technical Preview Milestone
Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has announced that its upcoming Windows Phone 7 operating system is now one step closer to become available on the first mobile phones on the market. According to the company, the platform reached a new milestone, called technical preview. What that means is that a wide community around the world can take the operating system for a spin, so as to provide the company with their impressions on how things work.
“I’m very excited to share with this blog community, that our Windows Phone engineering team has hit a very meaningful milestone; one that we’re calling technical preview. We are certainly not done yet – but the craftsmen (and women) of our team have signed off that our software is now ready for the hands-on everyday use of a broad set of consumers around the world – and we’re looking forward to their feedback in the coming weeks, so that we can finish the best Windows Phone release ever together,” Terry Myerson, CVP, Windows Phone Engineering, notes in a recent blog post.
Prior to achieving this milestone, the platform was being heavily tested in Microsoft’s labs. According to Myerson, over 1,000 people had Windows Phone 7 devices in their hands for everyday use, while over 10,000 mobile phones were being tested in the company’s labs. Usability, battery life, or network connectivity are only some of the aspects the development team took into consideration for testing.
“Starting today, thousands of prototype phones from Asus, LG and Samsung are making their way into the hands of developers over the next few weeks. Combine that with the beta release of the Windows Phone developer tools, and I can’t wait to see how our developer partners take advantage of our new approach to smart design and integrated mobile experiences. I’m personally working on a flash card app for my daughter, and am consistently amazed by the ease with which Silverlight and Visual Studio make WP7 apps possible,” Myerson continues.
While things are indeed moving fast towards the final release, a long road still lies ahead. End users, device manufacturers, application developers and carriers alike have showed increased interest in the upcoming operating system. It seems that Windows Phone 7 is indeed shaping up as intended, and that it should bring the long waited change in Microsoft’s approach towards the mobile space.

Friday, July 16th, 2010 iPhone 4G: Apple fights for the iPhone 4 image
It is a bad moment for Apple to talk about the iPhone 4G. Since the launch of the iPhone 4G the problems does not stop. On June 24, Apple launched in five countries the new iPhone 4G, a mobile which sold 1.7 million units in the first three days. Despite the success, from the moment the complaints about the iPhone 4G quality began. The calls are lost. Apple first denied the iPhone 4G problems, then said that users did not use it correctly and then laid it to a software problem. The reality is that the iPhone 4G antenna has a design problem and so I know last year was one of those responsible for the design of the apparatus.
According to Bloomberg News revealed yesterday, in the early stages of design, Ruben Caballero, Apple’s senior engineer and expert on antennas, officials warned Apple that the new iPhone 4G design might cause problems at the reception. One of the telephone service which gives also expressed the same concern before the iPhone 4G device went on sale, according to company sources who have opted for anonymity.
Apple has called a press conference today, from its own headquarters, which is speculated will respond to the problem created by the antenna of the new iPhone 4G. Is speculation that those responsible for the ever discreet company have refused to give details on this hearing, which comes curiously in the same week that the U.S. magazine Consumer Reports said it could not recommend the purchase of the iPhone 4G and suggested he had a problem hardware (as anticipated Caballero) and software such as Apple officially been defended.
The situation is delicate because the iPhone 4G generates 40% of sales from Apple, but beyond the fact that Jobs will release a product that we know it could have defects, and this created the first great problem of image of a company that until now has been convincingly presented as a company obsessed with perfection and seamless product details, highly innovative and mark distance from their competitors.
Given its policy of minimal communication, this time, to one senator, Democrat Charles Schumer, said that Apple has not given sufficient explanation and asked the company to “fix this problem in a transparent manner”, talking about the iPhone 4G. On Wednesday, analyst firm Research Bernsteis amounted to approximately EUR 1,178 million the cost to repair the iPhones Apple 4.
